Wow! Technology has advanced tremendously in the last couple of decades, and the telecommunication arena has certainly seen its share of change! Remember party lines!

According to the Center of Disease Control, approximately 30% fewer homes in the United States have a land line than 10 years ago! With the surge in cell phone use, that makes sense. However, there are quite a few reasons why a home phone is still vital.

A land line is a great back-up for when your cell phone is dead.

Have you ever had a dropped cell phone call while on an important business call? That does not happen when on a land line.

Personally, the one that makes the most sense to me is the 911 calls. 911 operators can pinpoint exactly where you are calling from when dialing from a land line. With cell phone service, they have a general idea where you are. If I am calling 911, that is not good enough for me!

Also, traditional phone service has electrical power provided from the telecommunication company’s Central Office. This means your landline is more likely to be functioning during a natural disaster, just when you need it the most!

Just some things to consider. . .Until next time!
